Lagered ale - longslice brewery

Mood: ive been off all week. Why not!

Where to buy: Town Brewery5

Price: $2.25

Beer type: a "lagered ale" whatever that means.

Ingredients:

Region: Toronto , on

%: 5.25

ml: 355ml

Appearance: between a pale ale and an amber

Smell: like a pub beer, plain, good, draft.

Taste: Just a regular draft beer with a bitter aftertaste. Decent again if I just want something plain and good. But if I can find cheaper at the LCBO then that's a better option.

Mouthfeel: bubbly and then creamy near the end

Finish: I'm not a huge fan of the bitter aftertaste. That actually turns me off of getting this beer again.

Overall:  not great and  not bad. I think it's what it described, a lagered ale. Which in my opinion is an ale with some bitter. Decent percentage so I would buy again.

6/10 cuz I can probabaly get a 455ml for something close to this price.

Beer (vodka??) seltzer - Bud Light

Mood: I want something light and like the last seltzer I had!

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $2.95

Beer type: beer seltzer... wait what?  It's a vodka SELTZER??? WELL FUCK THAT.

Ingredients: Carbonated water, vodka (not beer), cane sugar, natural flavour, citric acid

Region: torontp, on

%: 4.0

ml: 473ml

Appearance: completely clear and bubbly!

Smell: strawberry/mango Canada Dry!

Taste: Honestly, tastes like strawberry/mango Canada Dry. With some very fake tasting strawberry, the mango was less fake tasting.

Mouthfeel: water with fake tasting strawberry, less fake mango, I can't tell that there's any alcohol.

Finish: water with a very aspartame strawberry flavour. Still present w the aspratame in the mango one as well.

Overall:  ok... WHAT??? it's a beer company, therefore I thought I was drinking a BEER SELTZER. Well I am wrong.  The only alcohol in here is vodka. Damn. It's like getting the life brand bubbly water with aspartame vs the Canada Dry. It leaves a taste in my mouth that is fake. But it might be good to mix with vodka and use as a mixer lol.

6/10 because of the aspartame taste. But again might be useful as a mixer.

Munich Style Lager - Muddy York Brewery

Mood: I've drank this before. It's addictive! I like the malty barley taste!

Where to buy: Muddy York Brewery

Price: $2.50

Beer type: Munich style lager

Ingredients:

Region: East York, Toronto

%: 5.4

ml: 473ml

Appearance: a nice bright amber yellow.

Smell: sweet malty lager

Taste: a sweet beer. Reminds me of Europe and is very malty and barley like.

Mouthfeel: turns creamy

Finish: malt and barley

Overall:  this is where I get to shine. I think this beer really caught me at the beginning because it reminds me of the extremely cheap beer I was getting at the beginning of all this. The beginning of this blog! I like the taste. It's sweet and a bit stronger than the usual frat and bar beer.

9/10 like I said probably because it reminds me of my cheap beer days. But will return to the brewery just for this type of beer. Found my jam!

Beer seltzer - Longslice Brewery

Mood: End of the week, kids are coming over. Let's have a seltzer!

Where to buy: Longslice Brewery

Price: $2.95

Beer type: beer seltzer

Ingredients:

Region: Hamilton, On

%: 4.5

ml: 473ml

Appearance: almost clear, with a bit of beer in it

Smell: cherry Canada Dry!

Taste: Honestly, tastes like cherry Canada Dry with a bit of beer in it. It's refreshing and good! Honestly out of the whiteclaws and stuff hanging around now, I would prefer this as a seltzer.

Mouthfeel: water with beer in it, almost like apple cider with water

Finish: very light, I can't help but keep saying it tastes like water with beer in it, it's almost like apple cider or apple juice as a finish.

Overall:  I honestly love this concept that there is water with beer, and I will definately be drinking this in the summer. Very light!

9/10 like a white claw or social light with beer for the booze and not vodka or gin etc. I really enjoy this.

Pastry Stout - Grain & Grit

Mood: This week was 4 days, and Im starting my weekend off now!

Where to buy: Grain and Grit, or 4th and 7.

Price: overpriced for $5

Beer type: Pastry Stout with Chocolate Sponge Toffee & Lactose

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Wheat, Lactose, Dextrose, Cacao Nibs, Toffee brittle, VAnilla Extract, Hymalayan Salt, Natural Caramel Flavour, Yeast, Hops, Caramel filling.

Region: Hamilton, On

%: 8.5%

ml: 355ml

Appearance: Dark almost black

Smell: a sweet porter

Taste: Honestly, tastes like a light porter with a hint of caramel and pencil shavings.  Ya im not kidding.  For the amount of ingredients in this....

Mouthfeel: creamy af. Very stout like

Finish: little bitter, little creamy, all sweet (and a hint of bitter)

Overall: Ok for the amount of ingredients listed on here I was expecting so much more flavour.  It honestly reminds me of a coffee porter boiled down into something a little thicker and sweeter, minus the coffee flavour... so really... wtf!!!! I expected flavours guys!

5/10 won't be heading to the brewery for just this. It doesn't even taste like what is says.

Marshmallow Porter - third moon

Mood: this week just started and I'm already tired AF.

Where to buy: Third Moon Brewing Company, or 4th and 7.

Price: overpriced for $6

Beer type: Porter

%: 7

ml: 435ml

Appearance: Dark almost black

Smell: a sweet porter

Taste: porter with a slight sweetness. Almost a fruit flavour after

Mouthfeel: bubbly then creamy

Finish: almost dirty water, but a smooth porter.

Overall: I don't get it. You call it a marshmallow porter, make it taste like a marshmallow porter! Not worth the $6. Can't even taste the marshmallow so won't be rebuying.

5/10 won't be heading to the brewery for just this.

Old style lager - Muddy York

Mood: this week just started and I'm already tired AF.

Where to buy: Muddy York Brewery

Price: 3.10

Beer type: American lager

Ingredients: I'm not sure... it just said old
Lager ???!

Region: East York, Ontario

%: 5

ml: 355ml

Appearance: Golden brown

Smell: like the beers I used to steal in the basement. I wanna say they were blue? Bud? Heineken?

Taste: ok now I understand what old style lager is. It's basically the crap I remember stealing from my dads stash when I was younger. Basic Blue or Bud beer.

Mouthfeel: crisp and clean. With a hint of 1980z

Finish: bitter in my throat, I sense this is the theme from this brewery...

Overall: what a waste of 3.00. It's like the bargain beers I used to drink when I first started this blog and wanted to find something under... $2.00?

4/10 old school cheap beer! won't be going to this brewery to pick this up.

Coconut porter - Muddy York

Mood: this week just started and I'm already tired AF.

Where to buy: Muddy York Brewery

Price: 3.31

Beer type: Porter

Ingredients: water, malted barley, wheat, toasted coconut, hops, yeast.

Region: East York, Ontario

%: 4.7

ml: 355ml

Appearance: dark brown

Smell: sweet porter. Like sugared coconut

Taste: first sip is sweet coconut porter, but it goes away very quickly to just be a porter

Mouthfeel: turns into a smooth cream in my mouth, quite lovely!

Finish: bitter in my throat almost a dirty water aftertaste.

Overall: Not bad, but not good. Out of the porters ive had in my day this is probabaly one of the better ones. But over time I'm noticing more and more that porters just aren't my thing. Not worth the far drive for this one.

6/10 - it's ok, won't be going to this brewery specifically to pick it up though.

Pale Ale - Goodlot Farmstead Brewing co.

Mood: Just wanna excape for a bit during the day and have a good beer.

Where to buy: Lawblaws

Price: 3.25

Beer type: Pale Ale - Strong Beer

Ingredients:

Region: Caledon, Ontario

%: 6.2

ml: 473ml

Appearance: light yellow

Smell: juicy beer, slight tropical pale.

Taste: close to what the description is, it's like a pale ale with a hint of IPA (aka a tropical taste) it's light and nothing too out of the ordinary.

Mouthfeel: juicy, like it has some dragonfruit or something in it.

Finish: bitter in my throat, like a tropical IPA

Overall: I know a lot of the descriptors I put in make it sound like im drinking an IPA, but it isn't it's like a plain old beer plus a few drops of IPA in it.

7/10 - most of this review is that it tastes like beer, I dont hate or love it, but the CAN... my god I love the can so much.

Milkshake India Pale Ale - Lost Craft

Mood: Night alone for some self care!  Makin pogos and mac and cheese for dinner. mmmm

Where to buy: Lawblaws

Price: 3.25

Beer type: IPA Milkshake

Ingredients: Filtered Water, Malted Barley, Wheat, Oats, Lactose, Hops and Yeast

Region: Toronto, Ontario

%: 6.0

ml: 473ml

Appearance: light yellow

Smell: very light IPA

Taste: well I should have known when I got an IPA that the milkshake part was just stupid and non existent.  Anyways... It's an IPA taste and honestly its kinda burning me

Mouthfeel: bubbly! kinda stays bubbly and creamy at the end, the bubbles just like evaporate... nothing heavy

Finish: bitter in my throat, almost a tinny taste.

Overall: I should have known,  I got an IPA it's an IPA.. no milkshake involved they just add "lactose" which I dont really know what that means...

6/10 - I dont really like IPA's so thats why. changed to 1/10.  The lactose in the beer didnt mix well with what I ate that night.  I don't think "lactose" in beer is a good mix for me.

Hangover - Morning Recovery

So since I am trying out different beers, sometimes I can get into it and mix a few things,  Im usually aware when its going to be a KEEP GOING night, so I started looking in to options to prevent the dreaded hangover.  Especially when I have things to do the next day.

Second to try is Morning recovery.  I first started with "Party Smart" pills, and will write a review again next time I try them.  I cant actually remember if they were helpful or not since I havent used them for about a year.

Anways... onto morning recovery.

Price? - $29.99 for 6 bottles.

Why did I purchase? - it got good reviews online and was coming up on my insta ads.  After looking into reviews many people were seeing benefits, and it was new to canada so why not?  More positive reviews than party smart pills.

What is it? - a liquid shot that tastes pretty good, like a sweet lemonade.

What did I do? - both times I tried it I drank it all in one (or two) shots, usually just after I started drinking and realized I was gonna keep going.

How was it? - Both times I drank (pretty heavily) and both times the first thing I noticed when waking up after passing out what that my head wasn't spinning when i moved it quickly, and i had no headache (common signs for me).  I didn't feel sick, and I actually felt pretty much like I didn't have a hangover.  Probably 90% "normal".  The one thing I did notice is that I was tired.  Not all at once but by afternoon/evening when I usually get my "slump" I was TIRED. I didn't want to move or talk or do anything but lie there for a few hours.

Verdict? - No hangover symptoms except feeling sluggish and tired later in the day. Maybe a little less mental clairity/alertness than usual also.

Mocha Stout - Perth Brewery

Mood: After work, boys been over for 5 days straight and today is the first day without him...

Where to buy: LCBO

Price:

Beer type: Stout with mocha flavour

Ingredients:Water, malted barley, oats, hops, espresso, chocolate extract, yeast, vanilla

Region: Perth Ontario

%: 4.9

ml: 473ml

Appearance: dark brown almost black

Smell: Almost peachy... stout peachy...

Taste: for what the ingredients entailed, I am dissapointed with the taste. I maybe taste a bit of the chocolate, espresso, and vanilla, but they are so mild that all together it's almost like they cancel eachother out.

Mouthfeel: There's the espresso!  I was waiting for that taste!  turns kinda creamy when its in the mouth for a while

Finish: sweet, not too bitter, this is probably one of the mildest stouts I have had.

Overall: Honestly, though it dissapointed on the flavours it was trying to acheive (mocha??? more like... a beginners guide to stout). I would buy this again as I dont like the harshness of a lot of stout beers, and this could definately be something I can like and drink fast instead of sipping.

8/10 - only because it was light for a stout. Not because of the flavour of "mocha".

Peanut Butter Shake - White Water Brewing co.

Mood: Just about to join a friend chat on zoom and wanted something sweet :)

Where to buy: LCBO

Price:

Beer type: Stout with peanut butter Flavour

Ingredients:Water, Sugars (malted barleys, lactose), hops, peanut extract, wheat, flaked oats, yeast

Region: Foresters Falls, Ontario

%: 4.5

ml: 473ml

Appearance: dark brown almost black

Smell: peanut butter beer!

Taste:what a fun taste! and actually like the can says!  A light stout with a peanut butter extract taste.

Mouthfeel: bubbly, i was expecting creamy but it turns bubbly instead.

Finish: The longer it stays in the mouth the more bitter it becomes.  It has a very bitter aftertaste, much more the dark, sappy stouts I was used to before.

Overall: I love this beer.  I bought it last winter and this winter.  It's heavy and peanuty and stout-y.  Not something that is lovely at this time of the year (May) but definately appropriate in the cold winter months. Is a keeper in my books because the flavour it says it has is ACTUALLY the flavour I taste!

9/10, left out the extra point because it has a very bitter aftertaste.

Pumpkin ale - Flying Monkeys

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $4.25

Beer type: imperial ale

Ingredients: ???

Region: Granville Island, BC

%: 10%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: orange

Smell: Sweet fame pumpkin and spices. A nice plate

Taste: a stronger beer so has more or a whiskey bite. Lots of bitter spices and a strong beer. Together it's a lot to handle.

Mouthfeel: bubbly and kinda a stabbing in my tongue. I can't keep it in my mouth too long it's very strong.

Finish: the bitter sticks behind. And it's like I drank a whiskey or but on beverage. I hate that aftertaste.

Overall: honestly it has a good intention and I'm sure people who could handle the taste would love this. But honestly it's a lot for me. I'm probably going to put some ice-cream into it to make it a spiced float.

5/10 never again. Not my style of beer at all.

Sour Beer Blackberry Vanilla - Something in the Water Brewing

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes other beers.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $3.45

Beer type: Sour Beer

Ingredients: Water, Barley malt, lactic acid, sugars, yeast, hops, blackberry flavour, vanilla bean.

Region: Niagara Falls, Ont

%: 4.9%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: Light pink

Smell: Rasberry juice, sour

Taste: definately sour!  With a taste of lemonade and raspberry as a note.  No beer taste whatsoever

Mouthfeel: sharp, crisp, juicy

Finish: Bitter lemonade taste, I am not a huge fan of sours but this one has a smooth finish, nothing bitter.

Overall: I accidentally bought a sour thinking it was a "blackberry vanilla" beer.  I def taste the bery/rasberry type in a lemonade.

7/10 it's hard to rate this because I dont usually drink sour beers.

Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Coffee Stout - Great Lakes Brewery

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes other beers.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $3.45

Beer type: Coffee Stout

Ingredients: Water, Malted Barley, Wheat, Oats, Hops, Coffee, Yeast

Region: Baysville, Ontario

%: 5.5%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: Dark, rich... like black coffee

Smell: an almost pinapple coffee stout smell.

Taste: honestly like someone dumped cold brewed black coffee into a can.  I dont get much beer flavour but there is a weird "sour" flavour ontop of the coffee, including pineapple (citrusy?).

Mouthfeel: sharp and bubbly with a hint of creamy (expected with the stout!)

Finish: finally I get a bit of a hint of beer flavour. still tastes coffee like

Overall: The best coffee stout I have had, maybe that's because Ive only tried coffee porters before and Im not a huge fan.  From my understanding of stout it's not very strong so makes sense the coffee shone through.  I liked it. No comedown/hangover either.  I was awake!  (and bad to drink at 5pm... didnt sleep well at night)

7/10 will have again if I need a coffee beer!
