Mocha Stout - Perth Brewery

Mood: After work, boys been over for 5 days straight and today is the first day without him...

Where to buy: LCBO

Price:

Beer type: Stout with mocha flavour

Ingredients:Water, malted barley, oats, hops, espresso, chocolate extract, yeast, vanilla

Region: Perth Ontario

%: 4.9

ml: 473ml

Appearance: dark brown almost black

Smell: Almost peachy... stout peachy...

Taste: for what the ingredients entailed, I am dissapointed with the taste. I maybe taste a bit of the chocolate, espresso, and vanilla, but they are so mild that all together it's almost like they cancel eachother out.

Mouthfeel: There's the espresso!  I was waiting for that taste!  turns kinda creamy when its in the mouth for a while

Finish: sweet, not too bitter, this is probably one of the mildest stouts I have had.

Overall: Honestly, though it dissapointed on the flavours it was trying to acheive (mocha??? more like... a beginners guide to stout). I would buy this again as I dont like the harshness of a lot of stout beers, and this could definately be something I can like and drink fast instead of sipping.

8/10 - only because it was light for a stout. Not because of the flavour of "mocha".

Peanut Butter Shake - White Water Brewing co.

Mood: Just about to join a friend chat on zoom and wanted something sweet :)

Where to buy: LCBO

Price:

Beer type: Stout with peanut butter Flavour

Ingredients:Water, Sugars (malted barleys, lactose), hops, peanut extract, wheat, flaked oats, yeast

Region: Foresters Falls, Ontario

%: 4.5

ml: 473ml

Appearance: dark brown almost black

Smell: peanut butter beer!

Taste:what a fun taste! and actually like the can says!  A light stout with a peanut butter extract taste.

Mouthfeel: bubbly, i was expecting creamy but it turns bubbly instead.

Finish: The longer it stays in the mouth the more bitter it becomes.  It has a very bitter aftertaste, much more the dark, sappy stouts I was used to before.

Overall: I love this beer.  I bought it last winter and this winter.  It's heavy and peanuty and stout-y.  Not something that is lovely at this time of the year (May) but definately appropriate in the cold winter months. Is a keeper in my books because the flavour it says it has is ACTUALLY the flavour I taste!

9/10, left out the extra point because it has a very bitter aftertaste.

Pumpkin ale - Flying Monkeys

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $4.25

Beer type: imperial ale

Ingredients: ???

Region: Granville Island, BC

%: 10%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: orange

Smell: Sweet fame pumpkin and spices. A nice plate

Taste: a stronger beer so has more or a whiskey bite. Lots of bitter spices and a strong beer. Together it's a lot to handle.

Mouthfeel: bubbly and kinda a stabbing in my tongue. I can't keep it in my mouth too long it's very strong.

Finish: the bitter sticks behind. And it's like I drank a whiskey or but on beverage. I hate that aftertaste.

Overall: honestly it has a good intention and I'm sure people who could handle the taste would love this. But honestly it's a lot for me. I'm probably going to put some ice-cream into it to make it a spiced float.

5/10 never again. Not my style of beer at all.

Sour Beer Blackberry Vanilla - Something in the Water Brewing

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes other beers.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $3.45

Beer type: Sour Beer

Ingredients: Water, Barley malt, lactic acid, sugars, yeast, hops, blackberry flavour, vanilla bean.

Region: Niagara Falls, Ont

%: 4.9%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: Light pink

Smell: Rasberry juice, sour

Taste: definately sour!  With a taste of lemonade and raspberry as a note.  No beer taste whatsoever

Mouthfeel: sharp, crisp, juicy

Finish: Bitter lemonade taste, I am not a huge fan of sours but this one has a smooth finish, nothing bitter.

Overall: I accidentally bought a sour thinking it was a "blackberry vanilla" beer.  I def taste the bery/rasberry type in a lemonade.

7/10 it's hard to rate this because I dont usually drink sour beers.

Coffee Stout - Great Lakes Brewery

Mood: round 2, beer 2. Let's see if it does better than the Great Lakes other beers.

Where to buy: LCBO

Price: $3.45

Beer type: Coffee Stout

Ingredients: Water, Malted Barley, Wheat, Oats, Hops, Coffee, Yeast

Region: Baysville, Ontario

%: 5.5%

ml: 473ml

Appearance: Dark, rich... like black coffee

Smell: an almost pinapple coffee stout smell.

Taste: honestly like someone dumped cold brewed black coffee into a can.  I dont get much beer flavour but there is a weird "sour" flavour ontop of the coffee, including pineapple (citrusy?).

Mouthfeel: sharp and bubbly with a hint of creamy (expected with the stout!)

Finish: finally I get a bit of a hint of beer flavour. still tastes coffee like

Overall: The best coffee stout I have had, maybe that's because Ive only tried coffee porters before and Im not a huge fan.  From my understanding of stout it's not very strong so makes sense the coffee shone through.  I liked it. No comedown/hangover either.  I was awake!  (and bad to drink at 5pm... didnt sleep well at night)

7/10 will have again if I need a coffee beer!
